Have you ever considered how essential biodiversity is to our world and how much our local communities can contribute to its preservation and enhancement? Let’s imagine a Biodiversity Park co-created by nature and the community of people who live within it : a vision that weaves together the communities of life in the beautiful parishes of Betchworth, Brockham, Buckland, and the iconic Box Hill - the 4Bs.
We are familiar with the idea of a National Park whose purpose is to conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage and promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of these areas by the public. A Biodiversity Park has similar aspirations but its primary concern is to understand, conserve and enhance local biodiversity and make use of nature-based solutions for societal challenges. |

Our vision for a Community Biodiversity Park
Community partnership with nature
A healthy planet can only be achieved by the committed and coordinated efforts of whole communities working with organisations and associations that have important roles in managing and caring for nature and the environment. Inspired by this vision. Re-Betchworth, a charity for nature, environment and sustainability, is nurturing and facilitating a discussion exploring and developing the idea of a Biodiversity Park, and considering the value, benefits, costs and feasibility of establishing such a park. We greatly appreciate the willingness of Parish Councils, Surrey County Council, National Trust, Surrey Wildlife Trust, Surrey Hills Society, Buglife and other organisations and associations to consider and discuss the ideaa and we invite all members of our community to share their ideas and perspectives too.
